Participants will learn about the theoretical foundations of mindfulness and its proven benefits for mental health, including its role in treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other emotional challenges. Through practical exercises and real-world case studies, counselors will gain skills to incorporate mindfulness techniques such as mindful breathing, body scanning, grounding, and mindful listening into their sessions. The course emphasizes the importance of mindfulness for therapist self-care, exploring how mindfulness can prevent burnout, improve emotional regulation, and enhance counselor-client relationships. Ethical considerations, cultural sensitivity, and strategies for addressing client resistance to mindfulness practices will also be discussed. Dr. Krista Boyer

Dr. Krista Boyer is a licensed psychologist and founder of Authentic Perspectives Psychological & Consulting Services, where she provides individual psychotherapy, psychological assessments, organizational consulting, and community outreach programming. Dr. Boyer is dedicated to advancing the field through teaching, supervision, and consultation for mental health professionals, and has presented at the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, The Greater Pittsburgh Psychological Association, and the Association for Women in Psychology. Her contributions extend to publications in the Pennsylvania Psychologist, National Psychologist Newspaper, and appearances as a guest expert on BCTV’s Talking Mental Health and WMBS radio. As an adjunct faculty member at Carlow and Chatham Universities, she teaches a wide range of clinical courses, provides supervision to counselors in training, and services on doctoral dissertation committees.

Dr. Boyer holds a diverse academic background with undergraduate degrees in Art Therapy and Art History, a master’s and doctorate in Counseling Psychology, an MBA, and a yoga teacher certification. Currently pursuing a master’s in Clinical Psychopharmacology, she aims to integrate psychopharmacological interventions into her practice. Additionally, she serves on committees within the Pennsylvania Psychological Association and is the vice president of the Greater Pittsburgh Psychological Association. Her achievements include the Distinguished Alumni Leadership Award from Seton Hill University, recognition as Adjunct of the Year at Carlow University, and was a recipient of the Beth Rom-Rymer Scholarship for Psychopharmacology.
